snakes, earthquakes, onsens and castles, what a week!!!! Snakes and earthquakes weren`t on my list of must sees but am managing to survive none the less. The first time I heard of the earthquake was when my housemate`s father rang from Australia because it was on the news. So we whacked on BBC news (`on the hour every hour`) and what do you know, Japan has been hit with one of the worst earthquakes in years measuring a whopping 7. I was thrilled. Shows you how much attention i was paying to the world around me!
The snake incident was this morning. An unidentified snake lay in my pathway as I was walking away from the local accomadation I was staying in while here in Kumamoto. A small brown coloured snake lay in front of me. Me being big and brave crossed to the other side of the road and near jogged to the station (snakes not being my strong point and all that).
Onsens, yeah so why didn`t any one warn me that displaying a tattoo in a public onsen is illegal, a point of note for future (keep in mind you are naked at an onsen so its not like I could hide it). I will endeavor to never visit an onsen again, life scarring and all that I don`t think I will ever get over the experience.
Castles on the other hand, as mentioned I am in the city of Kumamoto and have seen what is reportedly Japans best castle and Tigger and I were sooo impressed. Photos and all that. I am finding shopping an experience. I thought I brought a fridge magnet when actually I brought a phone card. I wonder how my godmother feels about used phonecards on her fridge?!!! Well otherwise I must tell you that the weather is remarkably good (better than OITA), maybe I should transfer here? Otherwise am enjoying my second summer in a row and trying not to do too many illegal things....
