Little Schmoo in Japan

Chapter XXX
Our troublesome pair enjoyed yet another farewell party which again consisted of all you can drink, this time however Captain Schmoo managed to taxi it home still feeling the ground under her feet after her first experience with Japanese Yukiniku (they bring out raw meat and you cook it yourself like in Broadway shopping centre).
Monday passed in an exciting blur of kids classes. I was requested to do a shift swap for Alanna so she could go to the beach with Matt, Renae and Mark for Tues and Wed morning. So after Japanese lessons I cycled slowly home, did some shopping and worked the evening away with mad doctor from hell (a nasty student).
Wednesday rocks around full of promise, so Little Schmoo cycles 10km to Tanora beach, just as she arrives (an hour later) she gets a call from work asking for her to come in starting in an hour for two shifts. She said no and went swimming just as it started to rain.
She then arranged coffee with a Japanese friend for 7pm and cycled home (it was still raining). Showered, changed and got a second call from work at 4.30 asking me to work 2 shifts from 7.30 due to the prior made coffee arrangements again I said no.

I then went for coffee, came home and saw Alanna looking worse for wear, she asked why hadn`t I done her shift today? Why would I do your shift for you? I asked.
So she replies `we were all in a car accident and they had to cancel all of our classes`

So what had happened was that Matt called early in the day and said he was in a car accident and would be late (he does 8 hours) so they thought to call me to fill in for two not realising he would end up going to hospital all day. They didn`t consider the fact that Alanna was with him (or maybe misinterpreted his call, Japanese staff are not required to speak English), so they didn`t ask me to cover Alanna`s shift from 5pm (for 5 classes) and it wasn`t until 5pm rocked around that they realised Alanna was also in the accident and also in hospital and by then it`s too late to have called someone in.
So I was offered 2 of Matts early and seperately 2 of Matt`s late shifts which I wasn`t dropping my plans for when I could easily have dropped plans for 5 shifts.
anyway they survived the car accident with whiplash, minor bruising etc so alls well that ends well I guess.
otherwise I had a nice day off work
